Nothing matches the beauty of an Indian bridal dress. A girl looks the most beautiful when she is wearing her bridal outfit with lots of jewellery and that beautiful smile on her face. A bridal Chura is a set of red and white bangles which has to be necessarily worn by the bride at her wedding. You can replace the white bangles according to your choices. But usually, the tradition says to put on these two colours.

The Bridal Chura Custom

The Chura ceremony is held on the morning of the wedding. The bride’s maternal uncle gives her the Chura and the bride is not allowed the see the Chura until she gets to her wedding venue with her groom. The Chura mostly has a set of 21 red and white bangles. According to the traditions, the bride must wear the Chura for a year. Nowadays, the bride wears it for 40 days. Mostly, the Chura removal ceremony is held after the first anniversary of the couple. The in-laws of the bride arrange a small ceremony for removing the Chura. The Chura is removed and is replaced with glass bangles. The Chura is generally put into a small river.

The Significance of Bridal Chura

Wearing Chura signifies the status of a married woman. It is worn for well being of her husband. It is the symbol of fertility and prosperity of a bride. The bride is not allowed to see the Chura till the wedding because it might happen that her own evil eye may bring misfortune. That is the reason, the bride’s eyes are closed when the Chura is put on by her relatives.
