Wedamor is a wedding planning application aimed at the overgrowing and largely unorganised wedding planning market. With the advent of technology, higher disposable incomes and a need for customized weddings on the rise, an opportunity is very evident for online wedding planners who can provide the services at a fraction of the costs.
A wedding is the most auspicious part of one’s life. From every part of the world to every religion it is celebrated. Every religion has there own ritual which is undoubtedly the best part of weddings. Here I am not only going to discuss the wedding of Bihar and their ritual but also the fact that why Biharis are different. There is not much difference but there are some things which make them different. There are too many rituals pre-wedding or post-wedding which sometimes makes it very confusing to understand.
This starts with its pre-wedding ritual with start with:
Satyanarayan Katha(puja): The rituals start with puja as it is said every good thing starts with the blessing of good. It is an offering to God for blessing the bride and groom and with this, the pre-wedding rituals start. This Katha is done by the bride’s family and the groom’s family comes to the bride’s place with shagun.
Cheka: It is basically engagement but before engagement, a small puja is done where both bride and groom’s family offers gifts to each other and for their families. After the exchange of gifts the bride and groom exchange rings.
Tilak: Here bride’s family comes to groom’s place with shagun there happens a small puja. When the bride’s family come back home then we say ‘lagan‘ a local term which basically means from that day every wedding rituals will start and it starts with lol geet (regional song) which the ladies sing every day till the marriage ends which according to me is the best part of Bihari wedding.
Makor: Then comes to matter it is basically a ritual where we worship soil. This ritual is performed by both sides of the family. This ritual is performed by bua and sister(if married). We dig some soil from the group and worship it (dharma- as our religion says). The best part which I like is the prasad. Before matter, we set up manhwa(mandap) which is made of bamboo in the bride’s house.

Haldi: As everybody knows it is applied to the bride and groom as Haldi is considered as the most auspicious ingredient. Also, hereafter Haldi bride and groom can’t take bath till their wedding day.
Then comes the wedding day which is the most awaited day for everybody. As both the bride and groom had to fast until their wedding gets complete so the day starts with:
Kuwar bhath a 7 kuwari kanya(unmarried girls) had to eat rice with curd and sugar and the same goes with the groom with him 7 unmarried boys had to eat rice with curd and sugar. Here we had to eat sugar instead of Salt because they can only eat sweets till the completion of weddings. After this, the bride and groom are taken for a bath.
Imli ghotai: It is performed before the wedding where both bride and groom had to swallow imli.
Then comes the arrival of baarat and that duar puja(welcoming of the groom) is done and further the groom is taken for ver mala where the bride welcomes him by doing art. Then they are taken to mandap the ceremony starts with some rituals where the groom family offers her jewels and dresses and the same goes with the brides family this is a part of kuldevi puja. Further priests tie moli(thread) around the hands of brides and grooms that thread tied to mango leaves filled with akshat (rice), turmeric, and a coin.

Further, the bride is taken to her room to change into the cloths which grooms family gifted her, then Pheras are performed ( 7 rounds around sacred fire) in our culture as the Pheras are being performed the brother of the bride will give her lave (roasted husked rice) to throw into the fire with soop. Then singer daan is performed where groom put vermilion in brides forehead for five times, then he ties mangalsutra (nuptial chain) around her neck the mangalsutra also known as taagpaag with that the ceremony gets complete.
