Indian societies have never failed to disappoint us when it comes to viewing an atypical relationship or marriage. While some people go on to follow their hearts, they hardly notice these stereotypical hurdles presented by our society. When these bold moves are done by our idolised celebrities, in our case, our favourite Bollywood actors, it has an impact on our perspective. Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu

The legendary ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ actor, Dilip Kumar married at the age of 42 the love of his life and co-star of some of his films like ‘Gopi’, the beautiful Saira Banu who was just 22 at the time. Their marriage shook ’em all. They are still together and going strong after 52 long years. ‘Age is just a number’. Well said!

Suhasini Mulay

The famous actress who played impacting roles in movies like ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Jodha Akbar’ married in 2011 at 60 to a physicist Atul Gurtu who was 65. Bold move! Everybody’s head turned when she surprised everyone with her marriage. ‘There’s no right or wrong time to get married’. Suhasini married when she wanted to get married. No questions asked!

Kabir Bedi

Kabir Bedi married at 70 to Parveen Dusanj who was 41 at the time. Whoa! Now that’s an age gap to make it a controversy. It was a 29 year age gap and it was Kabir Bedi’s 4th marriage. Recipe for the ultimate squabble. That didn’t stop them from following their hearts.

Neena Gupta

From her current movie ‘Badhai Ho’, that was based on a stereotype, Neena Gupta has set examples to break the barriers of society even in her real life. She has a daughter, Masaba Gupta, who she had with West Indies Captain Viv Richards while in a relationship with him. There she goes being a strong, independent and single mother. Then after a few unsuccessful relationships, Neena found love and said “Yes, I do” at the age of 43.

Rani Mukherjee

Rani was always reserved about her relationship status with Aditya Chopra. Despite the rumors, they both never gave it much attention. And then, in 2014 she got married at 36 to her longtime love Aditya Chopra in a tight-lipped ceremony in Italy. No matter what, Rani never felt the obligation to publicise her own commitments and beliefs.

Urmila Matondkar

Urmila, at 42 surprised everyone by quietly marrying Mir Mohsin Akhtar, who is a professional model from Kashmir and was 34 year old at the time. Her personal and public affairs have always been not too much talked about. This surely gave us a daze and what a beautiful bride she looked! Urmila Matondkar follows no rules but her heart when it comes to marriage.

Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta’s relationship with Ness Wadia was very much in the news and later on, for all the wrong reasons. Anyhow, after that relationship crumbled, Preity, at 41, met the man she is now spending the rest of her life with. As we like to believe, ‘There is delay in God’s house, not darkness’. She married Gene Goodenough, an American who is a financial analyst by profession. We must never lose faith in second chances and marriage.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan

She broke millions of hearts as she shocked the entire world with the news of her marriage. Aishwarya at 34 married Abhishek Bachchan who was 31 at the time. So basically the age difference was the hot topic of the news then. They are blessed with a baby girl, Aaradhya (7). Despite all the hogwash, this couple is the most exclusive couple till date.

Purab Kohli

One of the most promising and under-rated actor of Bollywood, Purab Kohli broke all the stereotypical barriers by welcoming a girl child out of wedlock with his girlfriend, Lucy Payton and marrying her 2 years later in February 2018. Milind Soman

The sexiest man alive has found the one for himself and despite the “huge” age gap between Milind Soman (53) and his wife Ankita Konwar(27), they look fab. By huge we meant a 26-year gap. Intriguing enough?
